Thread: Hdn_origin lagging like hell...

    Exclamation Hdn_origin lagging like hell...

For some reason, hdn_origin lags everyone on the server right before the ambient explosions (I.E The explosions NOT caused by pipebombs and cause your screen to shake like crazy). I'm not sure if it happens on ALL servers, but so far it's happened on servers with mani plugins installed and it happens to EVERY player (so it's not my crappy computer! ).

I've heard numorus reasons as to why this is:

    -Server sucks
-Logic_timer is handled server side, causing it to be distributed among clients, which in turn causes lag (or something...)
-Env_shake is conflicting with mani (HOW that works, I don't know...)

Any word as to why this is happening and can/will it be fixed in the next version?

On the standard HL2 engine (220 mounted) Origin runs fine for me. However, in my quest for shadows on all objects I have been trying different mounts recently and have discovered that whilst the new Source SDK Base (215) and HL2DM (320) give shadows for all objects in DX9, they do cause Origin to pause just before every screenshake.

Not sure why this is and it will be looked into. I never thought about the logic_timer but maybe that is a problem. Why it would only cause problems outside of HL2 I dont know...

Had the same problem on some servers. Never happened on Primefarm or smokeys servers. Seems to be server related.

Okay. Sorry for the necro-bump, but i don't want to creat another topic about the horribles lags in origin.
Then, as said befoire, this can't really be fixed, so... wouldn't you just reduce the number of ambiant explosions ? I thought about that last time, on most of the servers i play, there's terrible lags in origin. :/

We got it on our servers after i did a srcds update recently. With the sdk/215 update meaning we could get VAC on the new srcds builds i went ahead and updated them, sadly my testing hadn't included origin so i didn't notice until it was done. I had to remove origin from the rotation as it really was just unplayable.

Hopefully you can figure out whats causing it as i rather like origin and would like to see it back on the rotation again soon.

I believe its the env_shake that I use to shake the screen with expolsions. For some reason on the HL2 engine (220) it wasnt a problem but with HL2DM (320) or the new SDK (215) it has a big puase before every screen shake. I may have to remove the env_shakes which is a shame, they were a nice touch of atomsphere...

They did make it tough to see the hidden, though.

No chance of making them client side so the server doesn't need to deal with it?

I'm actually quite surprised that they aren't already client side effects... It's even weirder that the effect has only started with the new engine update.

I might be able to confirm that...

JDQC had managed to fix the Origin issue by rolling back certain files to pre-update.

Don't ask me which files, because I don't know...
