This community has an extensive history, but with no upkeep, it's hard-pressed to last forever. I'd recommend checking out Project Void by Nonlin, he's working to create a revisioned successor to the current mod we know.
Use the search function for questions-It really works!
Seems like it. I am still alive though! I check from time to time.
i love you guys =[[[ i wish i spent more time when it was around for real and had a popping user base. im glad im here able to run a server and support the game now but damn its painful watching the php lose its infrastructure naturally =[ unfortunately my free webhost wont handle big file uploads so ive had to breakdown the games file system into .zips. theyd have to be extracted and foldered in a specific way, though its better than nothing., i know we still have moddb and maybe a few other sites to download the game. but shit.. moddb is the only reliable website and thats even a .com so.,; .coms dont last forever, aside from the php im shocked hidden-source.com even still stands as a .com.

Such a shame! Just thought of Hidden: Source and wondered if anyone comes to the forums anymore. Thanks for the memories!
I first played b2 at a LAN party when I was about 16 or 17 so must've been 05/06. I definitely remember playing Sewers, but we probably played others too. None of us really knew how to play, we'd press the pounce button but weren't looking up so we'd just lurch forward a few feet. Still, this was enough to catch up to an Iris player if you were running behind them or something. Then we figured out you could pounce if you hit the jump key right before hitting pounce and timed it just right, it wasn't until way later that I learned I was doing things the hard way.
Anyway, it was great fun sneaking up on unsuspecting players, and ever since I've had a real soft spot for assymetric multiplayer games. At the end of the LAN party the guy hosting said to me "by the way, you were annoyingly good at The Hidden" - I wasn't, but everything's relative I guess, we were all noobs. I'd play a lot, basically whenever I wasn't playing CS. The rush you'd get when the round started and you saw a knife in your hands, you'd feel your pulse as you try to quickly get into a good starting position. The sense of achievement when you'd taken down a full 9 man team.
I remember watching a "skillz video" by Chas0r where he was doing some amazing stuff, and I decided I wanted to do something like that. I developed my own style with time, basically I was aggressive as fuck, refused to use the pigsticker, and would try to get all Iris bodies and pin them to one location. As Iris I'd always play as Jamar Swope who I thought looked like the singer Craig David, so my name in game would always be Craig David. Ahh, teenage me. Anyway, I eventually did make some videos of "Craig David exploring No-PS servers" which went down pretty well. Though people commented positively on my aggressive playstyle, but the thing was, I was just showing the few times that it worked, I'd say a lot of the time it went badly - but it made for good demos I guess. I was never a great player - there were some Hiddens I went up against who just played with me, like I wasn't even a threat to them, they were just having fun. I honestly don't remember the names of them now, but there was one guy who was triggering voice samples and throwing my teammates dead bodies at me and stuff. Like, he wasn't throwing physics objects in order to kill me or anything, just to fuck with me, like in a horror movie, it was great.
There were a lot of good maps, I think train and docks were my favourites. Though maybe my most memorable game of all time was on one I can't remember the name of. In the middle of the map there was a building which had 2 or 3 floors with holes in the floorboards that you could fall through, and I think an attic bit the Hidden could hide in. That had this bit on the side of the building with some stairs and a walkway going up to a door on the first floor I think. Funny I'm saying this was my most memorable game and I can barely remember the layout of the map. But anyway, literally all the Iris players gathered by these stairs and walkway and stuff, not sure why they thought that was a good plan, but there were a few different pathways I had to get to them. A couple of doors, or I could go out of the building and get at them from outside the building. I would kill one, they'd go nuts firing in all directions, friendly fire galore. I'd already have pounced away, gone via a different route, then I'd come out and get another one - I was pissing myself laughing.
I started dropping out around b4a, but I'd always play every now and then.
I make games for a living now, so if H:S doesn't get revived, and none of the successor projects pan out, I might have to have a go myself one day.
Thanks for the memories.
