Issues joining games

My friend and I are currently trying to play, but have 2 problems. My problem, is that I cannot join many servers. When I click on some of the servers my game goes back to the main menu and does nothing. On the ones I can get in, my friend gets an error message stating something like "Steam Verification Incorrect". And the ones he can get in, I am unable to access. He did mention that his Hidden game was updating before he started playing, and mine did not. Is that the problem? Or is there something wrong with the servers?

It's about whether or not you updated sdk 2006. Most servers aren't up to date.
