based on the Freespace 2 engine... you basically get to fly around an frak up some toasters...

you don't need FS2 though as this is a completely stand alone game loosely based on the officially released source code. as such the system requirements aren't exactly humongous.

Yeah, watched the trailer for this a while ago - looks quite tasty, just not gotten around to trying the demo yet!

Pah, who cares about MMos? Need moar independence war! Lightspeed travel ftw.

BSG looks neat, though, the trailers have a damned lot of weapons fire going everywhere... I'd hate to fly through that.

I'm stuck on that tossing mission where you have to escort the mining spacecraft whilst shooting asteroids and (I think) helping out your commander who's a team ahead of you! :(

Played through it a few times including some of the custom missions that have been released. Damned good fun. I need a new stick though, my old one is flaky as hell.

Back to lurking....

Wow, I forgot all about this mod... I thought I had FS2 but it seems I only have Decent... I'll prolly pick up a copy later tonight.

For those that are playing it, is it really worth the play time? I remember playing a BSG mod before (different engine) and it was a waste...

the Homeworld 2 mod or one of the Battlefield 2 ones?

and you don't NEED Freespace 2 to play this. it's a standalone game based on the source code for Freespace 2 that Volition released for all to see and play with. as such you can also get the full FS2 (with the FS1 campaigns) legally for free from whatever torrent sight. Hardlight productions should have a thread with the latest builds.

Er. I'm having a lot of trouble even starting this game. I'm stuck with two .vp files and a java updater. Does that mean I've got the wrong version? I'm thinking I must've, embarrassingly, gotten hold of the linux version, stupid git. =/

Edit: Nevermind. I'll just follow the instructions this time. Man, do I feel stupid. =P

Second edit: Okay. I got bored. The menues were horrible, but it was a decent game, all in all. Just not something I can enjoy without at least fifty people buzzing around my head. =P

Forgot about this thread... Well I don't think it was for either of those engines, Homeworld 2 mod, last I recal doesn't have a exe yet(I could be wrong tho) and I dont have BF2.

As for BSG:BTRL, I didn't like the menu system to much at all. Graphics/Models look pretty awsome. But how the hell did you guys control flight in game? Besides the defaults, It took me 10 min to shoot down the first red1 tut! or I must just suck that bad at it! haha...

my joystick's in a box half way across the country so i play with my mouse for aiming. WASD for Accel/Decel/Slide Right/Left Shift/Space for Roll Left/Right X for Afterburner, the the main targeting and throttle control done via rebound mouse buttons. but then i play some random FS2 campaign for a bit ever month or so so the controls stay imprinted...

Well, I just used the numpad, throwing my main thrusters to available buttons around the numpad; and used the mouse for all the aiming it was worth.

Your game deletes your config if you don't give it attention?

I want your computer.
Badly.
