View Full Version : Cvar-x plugin somehow affecting me offline.

Whenever I join the lamerz server the cvarx plugin forces my connection settings (among others) to some other values making me warp like crazy. The settings remain like that when I go to other servers as well. Needless to say I started avoiding the lamerz server as I don't like changing each of my cvars over and over again.

Now I managed to get over that annoyance but recently I noticed I can't change certain cvars even when viewing demos! I don't get how the plugin somehow manages to enforce r_drawviewmodel 1 offline...This is ridiculous. :rolleyes:

So tell me, how can I get rid of that plugin on my install? At least temporarily.

yeah i've had trouble with the cvar-x and demos as well.

you need to exist the game completely and restart to clear the memory, but even then it sometimes keeps especially the reverted cvars. fortunately sv_cheats is not reverted so you can turn that on and you should be able to use the cvars normally.

as for the rate change. i have all my rates auto set in autoexec.cfg so the server in question can do as it pleases and it'll just get reset when i restart.

personally i hate servers that fiddle with things the admins seeminly know little about. unless you're on dialup (in which case you can eff off and die :)) rate should be 20000, and the updaterate and cmdrate between 60 and 100. nothing more.

i've a suspiction that lamers is run from some guys bedroom pc though so he may be forcing lower rates to keep the per-player bandwidth lower. i never play there anymore though. fake-full annoys me.

Actually my game goes best with a 10000 rate and with 30 on cmd and update rates. When the plugin changes them to 20000 and 70 I start to warp. Yeah, I'm in a minority I guess :rolleyes:

I'm on cable, but it's shared to a bazillion people.

Going to try what you suggested now.

well, no ...i'm not running the server from my bedroom, and tha rates are quite high, not low.

the cvar-x settings on the hidden server:

// CVAR-X 1.0 RC7 - Settings
Settings
{
// shows messages in the client's console
// when a CVAR or command is blocked
ConsoleMessages "1"

// shows a message when a player has been
// authorized after they have joined
// ..still shows failed authorizations
// even when disabled (set to 0)
AuthorizeMessages "0"

// effects how a player's steam id is shown
// in their auth message - when set to 0, no
// steam id is shown; when set to 1, steam id
// in normal format is shown; when set to 2,
// steam id without the 'STEAM_' prefix is shown
SteamIdMode "2"

// When set to 1, and sv_consistency set to 1 (which is default)
// Files listed in filecheck.txt and filecheck_moddir.txt (for mod-specific files)
// will be checked for consistency - a.k.a. not modified.
FileCheck "1"

so as u see the only thing "forced" is a minimum and maximum value, u can still tweak in between ...for your optimum setting, and there is no way that because of these server settings someone will have lag (unless u're on dialup). and since the hidden server has a tickrate of 66 ...having the cmdrate and updaterate set to 30 is useless

cl_interp
MinValue "0.01"
MaxValue "0.1"

cl_cmdrate
MinValue "70"
MaxValue "100"

cl_updaterate
MinValue "70"
MaxValue "100"

rate
MinValue "15000"
MaxValue "25000"

all other cvars are reverted to their defaults, so that the game can be fair to all
