I have all graphics settings up to the highest, I can see invisibles in Dystopia, but I just can't seem to see that hidden! Look at pictures from the windowed room in the tutorial and tell me

I know the pictures are slightly degraded but from what I hear looking at a hidden with a flashlight helps seeing it a lot, but no matter how much I focus I only see an empty room. Surely spotting a hidden isn't meant to be THIS hard is it? If it isn't, then can you give me some ideas as to what I can do to fix this issue?

Maybe my game is bugged, even when I use the wireframe command I still can't see a hidden, what do I do?

There is no hidden in the tutorial room, its a known bug that will be fixed in the next release!

Give it a go on a server, you can start your own LAN server and try finding him with some very basic bots (start the server, in console type sv_cheats 1, then bot_add) i find it very hard to find the hidden bot usually though since they don't do much and can be easily missed (maybe i just don't play enough ¬_¬) so mat_wireframe 1 to at least locate him or try a proper server instead. If you ask nicely someone might be nice enough to help you out, especially if the server is quiet!

Thanks mate! I stared at that window for so long I think I gotta raise my glasses number!

Edit: AHA, I can see him now, it doesn't come intuitively but he certainly is theere!

Hey man I was just playing with you on the Primefarm server (I was El Sid).

You say you've only been playing a few hours, and being able to see the hidden even once in a few hours is damn good going.

The learning curve on H:S is a very steep 1, but a very rewarding one once you break through the initial hard part. Once you see the hidden for the first time you will start to see him more and more, until it becomes almost second nature. A little perseverance is all that is needed :)

When I first did the tut I couldn't see a hidden and thought, there aint one, and that it was a joke, just to see how long you could keep people stood in the tut

If not, it should be. You got me.

Interesting bug. Beta 3 gave birth to this one?

I'm sure i saw him in the B2 tutorial so i'm assuming its a B3 thing yes, Miasmic mentions it here (http://forum.hidden-source.com/showthread.php?t=4133) thats the info i was going on.

well i have a geforce 5200. i heard you have to turn shaders to high to see the hidden at all. I can't do that with my current video card. if i do i get about 30 fps with constant stuttering.

my question is for other geforce 5200 users. can you guys see the hidden? if not could they make a optional shader that would work on older cards like the 5200?

I did have the same problem, but I ran dxdiag, and apparently dx9 did not install properly, as many of the files were still dx8, while only 5 were dx9. I highly suggest double checking ;)

I luv this game, but I don't have a chance in hell to see this guy unless he moves. Sometimes when he stands infront of certain textures and I am close I can see him. Though most of the time all I can do is react to being stabbed :( or other people dieing

What I hate most though is that obviously other people can see him. I have been made out from 30yrds or more when this is all I see at 10.

By the look of the screenies you are running DX7 or DX6, either way we only have DX6 and 7 versions of Hidden in there so you can play, but we dont actively support it, it just isnt fun. Sort yourself out with a decent GFX card, you can get a low end DX9 card for about £30 these days. Most kids should be able to afford that by doing a part time job for a couple of days!

You need DirectX 9.0 Hardware support as well as the software. If you graphics card was designed for <DX9, it will always automatically revert to it's native DX type (in your case DX8)

well i found sollution for this problem. ppl who has dx8 gets the problem only so far. and since in b2 they fixed dx7 bug you can safely degrade the game restrick your card to level of dx7 by adding cmd -dxlevel 7 to start up. that simply wont let the card use dx 8 properties and uses only dx7properties. for me that works well and i see the hidden.

and dont try use -dxlevel 9 because then you force it use stuffs your card dont jhave meaning it wont like it. but making it dx 7 just restricts dx8 propertys so it wont do anything bad. but if you feel lucky you can try dx9 too ;)

trust me, the hidden's there and he's not supposed to be visible when he's standing still. in the fourth screenie you have there you can barely make out his feet just across the right side of your pistol near the bottom of the panel. the problem with the tutorial isnt that the hidden doesnt show up, it's just that he doesnt move. to see the hidden you generally have to catch him moving. (and it doesnt require dx9 to play this game. I'm running an nVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 and I can see him fine when he's running. I'm even using a DX7 hardware based gfx card that can just barely handle shaders too...)

Rise from your grave my so... err... thread...

though it looks like you'll need to be updating for B5...

Yes, dead thread alert. Lets leave it shall we? Just to re-iterate, if you are running sub standard hardware you are going to not have fun playing Hidden as of Beta 5.

Anyone who doesn't have a DX9 card by now is frankly not a gamer in my eyes, these things have been around for years now (I've had my 9800XT for about 3 - 4 years now) and cost as little as £20 (convert to your native currency).

By checking our little 'what GFX card' poll I see most peons seem to have DX9 cards and so we made the decision to bin DX6/7/8 support for the most part, as of B5. You will still be able to load it and play it, but basically you WILL NOT SEE Subject 617, making playing pointless.

Yeah I mean I picked up an X800 GTO for $100 they're not that hard to get.

Also whats with people not being able to see the hidden? I could see him from day one. I dunno if It's because I have experience with AVP1/2, and Dystopia(stealth guy are about the same as the hidden), or because I can see shades of violet that only like 13% of the population can see. That means I'm 0% color blind, where I can distinguish between shades of violet(and other colors too) that most people can't see.

Even if 617 doesn't move I can see him sometimes. But there are not many such certain areas where the texture is that helping ;)
And 617 doesn't have to move, if YOU are moving, you'll also see him, while he is waiting somewhere! That's why I keep on runngin :D

Hmm... when I start the Tutorial, there actually IS a 617 in the cage...

K, this thread may be done for me...

Shit, should have been more attentive....
