Now that I have your attention... No, I'm not gonna give some detailed guide on how to hack. I just want to rant about hackers. See, I know there is a way of seeing the Hidden. All you need to do is change the value of mat_fullbright (you can try this in the tutorial). I also know there is a way to change it while playing online. And even though I know all of this, I don't use that kind of methods. But sometimes when playing against a small amount of players, I have noticed some people out there are using it.

You know how you usually fire at random things, hoping the Hidden is right there? Well sometimes when I'm Hidden, I hear no gunshots at all. But when I take a tiny peek around a corner, they open fire immediately! That's when I know they can see me. They are using the mat_fullbright hack.

Then there is a some kind of a hack that allows you to carry several sonic trip alarms with you. I managed to do this only in the tutorial, but I've seen it online too. Not as common as the mat_fullbright hack, but I've seen people do it from time to time (actually, I saw one today). Then there is one you don't see often, but I spotted someone doing this once... Once you use the adrenaline it never wears of.

If you ever encounter people like this, these tips should help:
- People using mat_fullbright hack are really vulnerable to grenades. I once tried the hack on a private server with a friend, and what we noticed is that once you get hit by a grenade you are fully blinded for a good 15 seconds.
- People with several sonic trip alarms are usually camping in corners, behind the alarms. Just throw a grenade there, and it should destroy the alarms and damage the hacker.

I wish these would be fixed some day...

which works in all hl2 games due to VACs inability to check certain things.

i hope you're not referring to the support class who is limited to only the p90 and fn303 but gets 3 alarms (plus 1 if they pick that equipment option)

how do you know it was adrenaline and how do you know it never wears out?
you get 3. so perhaps:
1) they keep using it until the round ends
2) they're speed hacking at a rate consistent with adrenaline
3) you're not paying enough attention.
4) your perceptions are flawed.

So basically, every "hack" you pointed out can be explained by you not paying attention, or just not understanding the point of gameplay elements.

Everything except the fullbright thing, that is. But that doesn't work unless you find a way to force sv_cheats on your client, which will certainly be detected by VAC sooner or later.

i hope you're not referring to the support class who is limited to only the p90 and fn303 but gets 3 alarms (plus 1 if they pick that equipment option)

I do have a technique to have 3 trips alarms as assault team, no hack or console needed.
I reported the exploit ages ago by MP.

oh right... though since b5 will no longer have a supply class per-say... i'd forgotten all about that. i suppose i should write a plugin that looks for people selecting the trip alarm and auto-supply-class them.

too bad i can't find the network properly offset for that (or adrenaline for that matter)

You don't have to select the trip alarm to get more than one as assault...

You better autokick people with shotgun/fn2k and more than one trip alarm D:

yeah but from what i recall in B5 the supply class wont be limited weapon-wise since it's just an equipment selection.

so it would be closer to that theme to check if they picked sonic alarms and then change their class to supply regardless of what weapon they have selected.

The equipment setup code is what can only be described as a complete and utter mess, it's a stodgy bit of code that's got a couple of odd workarounds to stop players from changing equipment part way through a round and having that equipment given to them at the time - I don't have a net connection at home right now, but if I remember I'll dig up the relevant bits and give you a bit more detail tomorrow.

sorry i was confusing myself. got stuck focusing on where the adrenaline shots are stored. silly brain forgot about the equipment property.


I don't have a net connection at home right now, but if I remember I'll dig up the relevant bits and give you a bit more detail tomorrow.

I dug through the old code during my lunch break (the things I do for you guys!) and made some notes:

- All the equipment stuff is in CBasePlayer or CSDKPlayer (generally check Base first)
- m_iEquipment covers the current equipment while m_iNewEquip is equipment that has been chosen via the menu and will be supplied next round
- m_iBoostCount is the number of adrenaline boosts left while m_bBoosted is the flag that says if a player is boosted or not.

hmm unfortunately, aside from m_iEquipment at least, none of them show up in the network properties list as of B4(b?) for CBasePlayer or CSDKPlayer

nor to they seem to react when being set directly since the offset doesn't seem to exist :(

Hmm, some of them may not be networked (though in theory, m_bBoosted should be) - I don't know enough about how plugins get access to variables to help much I'm afraid.

hmm.. i'll take a look at the client-only props as well when i get some time. though last i recall the datamap dump command crashes the server :/
